He begins his studies at “G. Frescobaldi” conservatory in Ferrara as a cello student. In the seventies he is active as session man in Milan working for several labels and recording with Francesco Guccini. He is featured in all the records by the singer-songwriter and is part of his touring band from 1984 to 2007 performing in about 700 live shows. He records five LPs with Paolo Conte and takes part in several of his live concerts. He is also featured in albums by Eugenio Finardi, Alberto Camerini, Miriam Makeba, Lucio Dalla, Mia Martini, Teresa De Sio, Lucio Battisti, Mina, I Giganti, Vinicio Capossela, Massimo Ranieri, etc..

In the eighties he turns his attention to jazz music. He spends some time in New York getting involved in its jazz scene. This experience will lead him to permanently devote himself to improvisation. On returning home he tours Italy with the Gil Evans Orchestra featuring Pietro Tonolo, Steve Lacy, Ray Anderson, Lew Soloff, John Clark. In ‘83/’84 he performs with Kenny Wheeler, Bruno Cesselli, Slatko Kaucic and Mauro Negri. In 1987 in Ferrara he’s awarded the “A.Willaert” prize as best musician of the year and starts a quintet with Bruno Cesselli, Piero Odorici, Marco Tamburini and Glauco Oleandri. With this quintet he plays the “Umbria Jazz Festival”. At the same festival he appears with Fabrizo Sferra, Fabio Zeppetella and Ramberto Ciammarughi.
