BASSOON MASTER CLASS WITH PAOLO CARLINI

The Master Class is open to students of all levels of preparation with a free program during which the following topics will be dealt with:

Basic technique and study models aimed at the development and consolidation of the instrumental technique, the issues related to the emission-breathing-mouth-timbric-dynamic-flexibility of the sound, vibrated and detached in the various types, posture and awareness of relaxation.

Technique of the phrasing: Setting and organization of the phrasing and the various possibilities in relation to the styles deriving from the historical periods. Development and maturation of conscious fantasy.

Repertoire: from baroque to contemporary music, the use of embellishments and ornaments, transparency in classicism, the dynamics and the sounds of romanticism, the effects in contemporary music: multifonici, flatter, glissandi, tremoli, circular breathing.

The timetable of the course will be defined by the professor according to the composition of the class.

The course provides a piano accompanist (only on request at the time of registration).

The organization reserves the right to make some scholarships available to the most deserving students upon request to the secretariat, to be assigned at the end of the course and at the discretion of the professor.

Paolo Carlini, after obtaining a diplome with highest honours at Conservatorio in Ferrara in the class of Vittorio Gavioli, pursued his studies with Marco Costantini and Klaus Thunemann. He has been first bassoonist at Orchestra della Toscana since 1987 and has held this position at Teatro alla Scala in Milan, Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia, Teatro dell’Opera in Rome, Fenice in Venice, Teatro Comunale di Bologna, Orchestra Sinfonica della Rai in Rome and Filarmonica della Scala under conductors Claudio Abbado, Riccardo Muti, Myung-Whun Chung, Esa Pekka Salonen, Eliahu Inbal, Daniel Harding, Daniele Gatti, Gianandrea Noseda,Rafael Fruhbek de Burgos,Neville Marriner, YeffreyTate. He has played as soloist with conductors Hubert Soudant, Gabriele Ferro, Donato Renzetti, Lu Jia, Daniele Rustioni, Alessandro Cadario, Giampaolo Bisanti, LucaPfaff, Marco Angius, Moshe Atzmon, Francesco Lanzillotta, Yeruham Skarowsky, Alexander Schneider, Zsolt Hamar, Berislav Skanderovic, Marzio Conti, Marco Zuccarini, Lior Shambadal, Kasper de Roo, Claudio Scimone, Marcello Panni e Marcus Bosch, Martin Sieghart, Yuri Bashmet and the Moscow Soloists.  As a chamber musician he has taken part in important festivals collaborating with Janine Jansen, Julian Raclin, Pavel Vernikov, Massimo Quarta, Alain Meunier, Franco Petracchi, Bruno Canino, Alessandro Specchi, Antony Pay, Hansjorg Schellenberger and he has performed at Carnegie Hall in New York, Mozarteum in Salzburg, Auditorium of the Conservatory in Tel Aviv, Auditorio Nacional in Madrid, Festival in Lubljana, Festival Open Air in Munich, Festival Rhein Vocal am Mittelhrein, Les Nuits Musicales de Nice, Festival di Stresa, KKL Luzern, Concert Hall inTokyo and Hong-Kong.  Ha has always been interested in contemporary music and has worked with Luciano Berio, Sylvano Bussotti, Ludovico Einaudi, Sofia Gubaidulina, Jean Francaix. Works for solo bassoon have been dedicated to him by Ennio Morricone, Luis Bacalov, Ivan Fedele, Azio Corghi, Claudio Ambrosini, Luis De Pablo, Giorgio Gaslini, Carlo Boccadoro, Marcello Panni, Carlo Galante, Marco Betta, Giorgio Colombo Taccani, Nicola Sani, Nicola Campogrande, Andrea Battistoni, Giancarlo Cardini, Enrico Pieranunzi, Maurizio Fabrizio, Alessandro Solbiati, Matteo D'Amico, Andrea Portera, Alessandra Bellino, Mateo Soto, Marie Incontrera, Johnterryl Plumeri, Dimitri Nicolau Marco Tutino,Pasquale Corrado e Fabrizio De Rossi Re. As a soloist he has recorded for labels Sony Classical, CPO, Chandos, Stradivarius, Naxos, Tactus, Bongiovanni, Fone', EMA Records, Amadeus and his recordings are regularly broadcast by Radio France, Bayerisches Rundfunk, ORF, WDR, SWF, NDR, CBC Radio Canada, Radio Nuova Zelanda, Australia National Network, Birmingham Public Radio, New York Classical Music Radio Station, Radio Svizzera Italiana, Radio Swiss Classic, Rai Radio 3, Rete Toscana Classica. He is regularly invited to give master classes at Conservatoire Superieure de Lyon, New York University, Conservatorio Superior in Sevilla, Haute Ecole de Musique in Lausanne, Rachmaninov Conservatory in Rostov, Kazan State Conservatory, Ural Music College in Yekaterinburg and many Italian Conservatories. He teaches bassoon at Conservatorio P.Mascagni in Livorno.
