DOUBLE BASS MASTER CLASS WITH ANITA MAZZANTINI

The course will focus on the preparation and refinement of the repertoire for orchestra auditions and competitions (solo concerts, orchestral passages, solo passages) and is in any case open to any double bass repertoire.

The timetable of the course will be defined by the professor according to the composition of the class.

The course provides a piano accompanist (only on request at the time of registration).

The organization reserves the right to make some scholarships available to the most deserving students upon request to the secretariat, to be assigned at the end of the course and at the discretion of the teachers.

Anita Mazzantini begins her musical studies at the age of 8 at the Istituto Musicale "Pietro Mascagni" of her city Livorno, with M° P.A. Tommasi and M° A. Salvadori. Then she graduates at the age of 17 at Scuola di Musica di Fiesole with M° A. Bocini; afterwards she carries on her studies with M° F. Petracchi, M° A. Bocini and M° O. Badila.

At the age of 15, she is first suitable for the Orchestra Giovanile di Fiesole; till 2004 she has been member of the International Orchesterinstitut Attergau of Salzburg, sponsored by Wiener Philharmoniker Orchester, of EUYO in Luxemburg and of the Young Janacek in Czech Republic; she was as well Principal Double bass of the Youth Orchestra Mimesis of Teatro del Maggio Musicale Fiorentino.

She is chosen by M° Riccardo Muti to be a member of Orchestra L. Cherubini and from M. Claudio Abbado to collaborate with Orchestra Mozart. She has been awarded by the Italian President C.A. Ciampi, of the "Onorificenza di Benemerita per L'Arte e la Cultura della Repubblica Italiana". She has widely collaborated with several Italian and foreign orchestras, among which Teatro Comunale di Bologna, Teatro del Maggio Musicale Fiorentino, the Orchestra of Arturo Toscanini's Foundation in Parma, I Solisti Aquilani, I Virtuosi Italiani, I Solisti di Pavia, the Orchestra of Teatro Regio in Parma, the London Philharmonic Orchestra, Orchestra Mozart, Mahler Chamber Orchestra and Les Dissonances in Paris. From 2003 till 2006 is a fix member and Principal Double bass of Festival Strings Lucerne.

Also active in teaching, she collaborates in the project of the Mahler Chamber Orchestra Academy which in the year 2015 and 2016 took her to teach at the Scuola Superiore di Musica di Catalogna (ESMUC) in Barcelona, as tutor of the double bass section of the Youth Orchestra of Catalonia. From 2018 to 2023 she was a Professor of Double Bass at the School of Music of Fiesole. From 2003 to 2006 she was a full member of the Festival Strings Lucerne as First Double Bass and was recently invited for the same role at the Orchestra of the Teatro del Maggio Musicale Fiorentino and Sinfonieorchester of St. Gallen.

In 2008 she is first suitable for the Tutti position in the Orchestra dell'Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia and is chosen for a Trial at London Philharmonic Orchestra one year later.

It is also awarded with the Honor of Benerita for the Art and Culture of the Italian Republic by the President of the Italian Republic C.A. Ciampi.

She is now Assistant and Substitute Principal Double bass at the Orchestra dell'Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia in Rome.
